The artist loved his gardens so much that he wanted the new building to take up as little of the garden as possible. So that is the result. We see a cool house that is supported on the only rock outcrop available without disturbing the natural vegetation of the river gorge.

The summerhouse was listed for preservation in 2000 and we were subsequently commissioned to restore it.

The idea behind the screen is not only pure decoration, it also can be used to shield the programmatic elements from the climate. To put it short, we deal with a mini city connected via ramps and pathways.

The perforated metal facade is a barrier that protect the interior elements, without completely cutting them off from the outside world.

Italian architects from LEAPfactory have designed the modular New Refuge Gervasutti that is the first an alpine accommodation sanctuary for tired climbers. The construction was opened in October 2011 in Courmayeur, on the Freboudze Glacier, on the East face of the Grandes Jorasses, Mont Blanc (Italy).

The Gervasutti provides 30sq.m of living space, 12 beds and ensures 2.5kWh of solar energy a day. There are a living room, kitchen and dining area there overlooking the precipice.

It goes without saying that the views are spectacular, and the refuge comes with a red pattern that makes it visible to climbers and mountaineers, who will often be approaching from a distance.

The total cost of the project was US$334,000.

To put it short, we deal with the first alpine refuge of the latest generation, that ensures the optimal combination of comfort, safety and respect for the environment.

Each room consists of a double bed, a bedside table and a lamp. Have some rest far from lavish, and it will be a travel story to remeber.
